Mason – Team Fastech

This month’s spotlight goes to our very own Mason on the tech team.  While many of you have probably been helped by Mason over the phone, get to know the voice behind the other end of the line.  Here’s some questions we asked Mason to help you get to know him:

Where are you originally from?
I was born and grew up here in Vancouver, but have also lived in Southeast Portland and spent a few years living in the gorge. I recently moved back to be closer to friends and family and cut down on the commute time.

What is your current role?
I’m responsible for answering the phones, gathering information from the clients and starting a ticket for them, and then following up on every ticket I’m able; but I’ve been working on a few different projects which have included transferring our client documentation from our server to a cloud based storage system and keeping documentation up to date, creating an inventory system for our equipment, and deploying a new backup software.

What is your favorite thing about working at Fastech Solutions?
My favorite thing about working at Fastech Solutions is the work environment.  It can get pretty busy but at the end of the day Tom often reminds us that he cares about us like we’re family and tells us that we are important.  I’ve never worked anywhere else where management gives positive affirmations and it can be reassuring to hear after a hectic day.

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
When I have thirty minutes of free time I like to throw on some music and relax. I would read a fantasy novel or start up a video game but I feel like trying to cram either of those activities into a half hour period isn’t worth it because as soon as I can really get invested into the story my time is up already.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
If I could learn to do anything it would be to develop a photographic memory and never again have to look up relevant information.

What three traits define you?
I am detail oriented, when working in any medium I take pride in covering the small details.  Outside of the workplace this presents itself in art, organization around the house and occasionally while cooking. Another trait that may define me is conscientious.  I like to be able to help others with whatever they need assistance with as long as I’m able; and when I’m unable to help, pointing them in the right direction.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
If I could meet anyone I would have a tough time choosing, but Bob Dylan would be pretty high on my list as he was the first artist I listened to that made me want to keep listening to the stories from his songs.

What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
It’s difficult to narrow them all down, climbing, snowboarding, swimming and camping are all definitely up there in my favorite outdoor activities, when I’m stuck inside I would prefer to play some video games with friends or read a book/draw if I’m on my own.

What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
The chore I hate doing above all else is picking up after my dog.  It’s not a difficult task, but no aspect of the chore is pleasant.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?
If I could be any fictional character I would be Goku, not to be able to go Super Saiyan, but solely for the instant transmission ability to not have to worry about transportation ever again; everything else is just a plus.
